Wonder how many Joules that thing discharges

Stuart

1130 at 185v by a quick Google

And if discharged in 0.1 second about 12 kW  :bugeye:

Nice find Andrew. Back in the days when we used to do quite a lot of repairing and modifying farm implements one of these would have been a god send.....OZ.

Brilliant bit of kit.
Don't need tee slots on a Bridgy now, just weld studs where you need them and grind the old ones off.

Magic.

I laughed when I read that, but I'm certain we've all witnessed the type of philistine who would do something very similar. :palm: .....OZ.

So you can't really have a bit of kit like this without pulling it apart and having a look inside  :ddb:

No real surprises - three capacitors totaling 66,000 uF rated at 200v. One side of the bank direct to the earth terminal - the other to the gun via a humungeous power semiconductor and equally impressive clamping power diode. And some circuitry to arrange for triggering the semiconductor power switch, and charging those capacitors.

(I strongly suspect that the circuit is identical to the one in the Lynx manual I uploaded a few posts up this thread with the exception of the voltage indication)

Thanks Steve ..... but VINTAGE ...

Those capacitors are dated 1997 ..... that's MODERN

I love the heavy braid straps leading all those electrons from the capacitor to the outside world, and that big switching (probably) Thyristor  :ddb:
