Yahoo groups
« on: April 14, 2016, 06:19:35 PM »
I dare say like many I used to use the Yahoo groups a lot for some of the varied interests I have.

Since they went over to the new Neo format some while ago things have gone from bad to worse.

Even worse if you 'own' a group or two as I do. It make you have to jump thru hoops to approve new members etc but it was workable - just.

Recently I have found that I can open the main groups page easily enough but that's it. If I click on a post then I get the circling sharks and nothing else. I use firefox but tried IE and Chrome, same on both.

Add to this the reported Yahoo problems and I feel it's time to get a couple of the more popular groups off Yahoo and onto a dedicated forum, possibly under the Homeworkshop umbrella but separate from it.

However fisrt I need to get back on the save files and photo's. Any ideas and is anyone else having problems with Yahoo groups.

John, my problem is not being able to search open and read conversations within my groups on any PC, but I can read/reply to new posts via email notification on my mobile.  I can search open and read files and photos within my groups on any PC with no problems.
I have contacted Yahoo through there support network (for what its worth) for the last year and never had a reply.
If enough group owners like yourself vote with there feet and start independent groups like madmodder I would follow all my present groups to there new home.

John,I used to visit the Harrison lathe group quite often but gave up as it isn't a user friendly format at all.

It's a shame because that lathe group is full of really useful info for Harrison owners......OZ.

I'm on the Boxford user's group. I agree that Yahoo is a pain in the a*** compared with web-based forums. One of the members offered to move the group into the 21st century at his own cost. Sadly, too many older reactionaries vetoed the plan. Goodbye forum member and we're still stuck with Yahoo

I run the Roland MDX forum on Yahoo.  I had assumed Yahoo to be trying to piss off as many groups as they can to reduce their data centre size.   No happy solution and I think my group will just die a natural death over the next couple of years.  I too PLAN to archive as much as I can, but then where to store it for public access ?

We got so many spam emails to porn sites we set up our own Raglan forum http://raglanmachinetools.freeforums.net/

A lot of us don't use the Yahoo group any more why not set up your own forum up for your lathes
