My ultimate goal is to have the scales read out on this...

I already have a number of Arduino micros and I bought an Android tab, just need to sort it all out...

I have one on X for my lathe. It seems robust. The one on the mill quill chews batteries though..

Mike -- If they are good out of the box, they tend to stay good.  If they are bad out of the box, there is no salvation.  Therefore, as soon as you get one, set it up and take a number of known measurements (several times) as a quick check.  Be sure to run them off of a power supply when you install them as the batteries go bad quickly when they get cold.  With those caveats, I use them regularly.

I use the Harbor Freight digital calipers quite a bit.  I bring in a couple of the batteries and (say) four well "ranged" gage blocks to check them with before I purchase them.  The only bad ones were "gifts" from those who did not know the "secret."

I put the accuremote scales (the blue ones) on my Burke Millrite and they worked great, got a good deal on a Bridgeport and sold the mill.  I made and used Yuiys bluetooth  read out for the accuremote gages that worked great and no longer use it would sell for $70. I chose to get some Chinese DROs  XYZ  for the new to me mill.  For a lathe they may be the best choice because of limited mounting areas. the mill has room for the larger glass scales, the good thing about the igaging mag scales they can easily be cut, I used my bandsaw.
