super7 motor
« on: June 10, 2016, 12:34:23 PM »
Hi chaps, doing a little work on the lathe ( facing a couple of bits of tube ) when a big blue flash and pop came from the motor. the motor still turns but i do not think it has the power it had. It is 38 years old, :bugeye: so it it a good time to go 3ph like i did with the Mill? or would it be a simple thing to fix :zap:
cheers.   Lyn.

Without having the motor in front of me, in pieces...its difficult to say what ails it...
Suffice to say that if it runs when powered, then the start winding is intact and the problem is with the run winding.....

(If you're angling for a 3 ph conversion, then I have a brand new 3/4 hp 2800 rpm motor in front of me, for a consideration..... Think its a 71 size frame?  )

I've just 'blown up' either a 3ph Super7 motor or the Transwave.

Meantime, I've fitted the old 1PH. Probably,  your motor has sucked in a piece of swarf.- which shorted- without doing much damage.#

I'm looking for a bit of mesh again to stop such ingress. Probably a rice strainer could be cannibalised.

Perhaps this helps?

Well it took all day but i now have the motor out and in bits ready for the skip, the insulation has burned off and a couple of the wires are in contact. horrid smell of cat pee inside and black stuff sticky like melted plastic.. the clutch pulley bearings have also seen better days, so two
ordered this afternoon, awaiting contact with Newton-Telsa..
PS: does any body need a Dewhurst type A switch?
