In todays terms what would the lathes cost (Arms/Legs/Rest of the Bits spring to mind)??

They are still making lathes http://www.southbendlathe.com/ , you can send your lathe number and for a fee you get a full history year of manufacture and who bought it , mine was a ww2 lathe fitted in a destroyer in 1940 .

WOW, that link was a great find. The Chevy wagon with lathe, shaper and drill press would have been a tad heavy I think. Looks like that lathe was able to be run in the boot. Just run an extension lead and presto.
