Hi Rob,
I was doing a bit to the Colchester over the last few days
As you are intending to do mine has been located with its back to a wall
I believe theres room for the coolant tank to sit on the floor behind the front panel between the pedestals
It will take a bit of reorganising of the drain from the swarf tray though !!!
I'm thinking of some sort of bund tray to sit the tank and pump into ??

I made a novice mistake where I mounted the oil filter unit
I had not looked at the back of the big end cover to see theres a dividing partition between the belts and the gear train :bang:
I will have to drill mounting holes for a bracket in the cast iron and reposition the unit low down

Hi John

I got the lathe moved into the workshop at the weekend and was looking at the coolant tank access  problem ,and I may just transfer the rear coolant access cut out to the front of the leg ,using the rear access cover on the front .

I will also have to re mount the Y axis DRO scale as it sticks straight out from the saddle . All fun and games .

Cheers Rob

On my Master 2500 when it was against the wall at my last place, I truncated (cut & shut) the tank so I could just squeeze it in and out.

In other news I did happen across a rather nice (well i think so ) set of angle blocks , hardened and ground ,in 5 degree increments ,5/8 thick  should be a handy addition to the shop  :dremel:

I dont think I will have room to get at it from the rear Andrew , other machines in the way , my shop is a tad more cosy now  :palm:

Hi All,
Another mod that I would like to inflict on the Colchester is to move the clutch fwd/rev lever to the left hand side of the apron  :palm:
Why ??
Well two reasons, firstly I'm left handed, second is that the lever on my other lathe is on the left
It will take me time to learn to use and get used to the foot brake /stop bar

Hi John

No manufactures name/logo , but I am hoping this is the actual makers name  L Williamson it and the angles are very  faintly etched into each block  ,it would be nice to think he actually made the angle blocks .

If you do decide to put it on a shelf, make sure it cannot fall off. Mine does tend to walk round quite a bit, and generate a fair bit of noise.
Depends on what you are used to, I know, but mine ended up next door to the actual workshop.

Did it walk there by itself or did you show it the way?  :coffee:

Years ago I had a Transwave static converter that fell off a shelf - slightly dented but the voltage sensitive relay / socket arrangement broke from the shock of the fall - it was a good few years old at the time. When I rang Transwave  to buy a replacement relay they insisted on giving me one for free which I thought was a really good indication of what sort of a company they are.

I think it was a little sad at being banished to the shed, so was attempting to get back into the workshop. It could not manage the locked door though.  :D

Hi Rob , Looks very nice and new  did you go for the 10hp in the end ? I can't remember did you have a sort of ring going around  the shop. I am going to put sockets and remote buttons for the converter down one side of the workshop.
Enjoy your 3 phase lad
cheers Mick

Cheers Lads

Aye ,,,I had a rotary phase converter years ago that used to growl a tad , we will see what this one is like  :med: I have a good selection of rubber mounts at hand

Well today I came across a canny find , one that will solve one of my on going problems , how to make my limited workshop space hold more .

The story goes like this  :D as I was leaving a job in Newcastle were I noticed a new ALDI store and fancying making a pot of goulash at the weekend ,thought aaarh ALDI do good rump stake ,so swings the van about and goes shopping ,well wile minding my own businesses decided whether to get some gnocchi my eyes fell upon these wall cabinets .

Reduced to £15  :bugeye:  , so I went and payed for my groceries and popped back into the store for four of them ,thinking they would be ok ,

So gets home and whacks one together and was pleasantly surprised at the quality .

So much so I nipped back to the Forden store and bought six more (all that they had )

So I now have six meters of cabinet space to fill .

Cheers Rob

Junk!

Junk!

Junk!

That's what you will find in them..... Tis true, the more space you have the more 'stuff' you accumulate, which is why my garage is cramped......just not enough room....

Seriously though, those cabs look the dogs donuts Rob....  I could do with a couple meself...but I'd only fill 'em with 'stuff' :D

You going to post a piccy or two with them mounted on the wall?

Make us all even more jealous....
