Greetings from USA
« on: October 02, 2016, 09:03:35 AM »
Hello. My name is Davyboy.  I have signed on with HMEM and MEM boards, so I recognize some of your members that post over here.  It's been a long time since I've had anything worthy to contribute, so I mostly lurk in the background.  Please allow me  to lurk here as well.  I have been a machinist for many years, now working on bigger stuff, up to 10,000 lbs.  My home shop has 7x10 and 9x20 lathes, and a mill/drill machine.  Most of my model toys are simple and easy, fun short term projects.   I'm hoping to get some finger engines together for gifts this holiday season.  I had a display at the local tractor and steam show recently.  Here's a photo.  Thank you to all who post on here, I sure enjoy watching, even if I don't chime in.

A warm welcome from me too Davy,
I also have a 7x12 minilathe although mine as the longer bed, its a Sieg machine. I also have a 9x20 and for the bigger jobs, an 11x30 equivalent.

Most of the work my machines have done is making parts or tool addons but I've completed a single cylinder steam engine which now adorns one of the shop shelves....

Thanks Gents, I built most of them myself.  Purchased  Mamod, Wilesco and PMR Peanut.  A few photos of my toys.  Wobblers and finger toys, my own designs, inspired by the talents of craftsmen like you.   And yes, I spend some time making tools and plans for new projects, I have quite a long to-do list!

Hi Davyboy - welcome aboard

Seeing Mamod engines always takes me back to my childhood - running them on the kitchen table. After a meths fire which caused a bit of upset my Grandfather made up a special tray of zinc sheet to run them on, and family harmony returned

First thing I ever blew up was a Mamod twin cylinder engine.

Boiled dry and bang off went the "simple" end. Me and grandad sorted it out (he was a smith with the LMS).

Went on to bigger things! (Like the Rosetta mission!)

Welcome Davy. Nice collection of finger engines you have made there

As you say they make great gifts for inquisitive minds and youngsters find these sort of gifts especially fascinating. I'm planning on making some wooden toys as gifts for friends and relatives kids this Xmas....OZ.
