I expect to get the above along with a case, heat sinks and power supply next week. My initial plan is to couple it to a 32 in. tv (also on order) via hdmi and use it to view youtube videos and the like from the internet. This version of the pi has bluetooth and wifi onboard so that should make it easy to use.
I plan to play with this little computer - I use linux on my main computer and thus the learning curve won't be at all steep- mainly as an "entertainment box" but later would like to delve into cnc. I have no clue about what's involved in cnc but should be able to figure some of it out with time and the internet. It seems that the controller boards and small stepper motors are inexpensive and readily available.
I've downloaded the debian raspberrian image and loaded it on a micro sd and also have the ubuntu version ready to try.
