Hi Everyone

From time to time questions arise about photos and viewing/editing. There are many different programs available from free to hundreds of dollars. Sometimes you need a few different programs to do what needs to be done. Sometimes people just don't know about some of the programs that are available.

I have been using a program for mor than 5 years that I feel some of you should know about. Some of the members and users of this forum are already using it. It is called "Ifranview". Its free and I feel that it worth a look.

It is great for viewing pictures in most any format, convert between formats or changing sizes, plus many other things.

This thread all came about because of a picture posted by Chuck (aermotor8) in the thread "full size gas engine" http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=1698.msg16727#16727  because the piston that is in the first photo looked like it was cut in half or imbeded in the wood. The comment was made that it was "photoshopped" into the picture. I was curious as well so I downloaded the photo and enlarged it to 400% to look at it with ifranview. After looking at it for a while I began to see that it was real. I then used ifranview again and the following is the rest of the information of the very fine picture taken by Chuck.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

For anyone interested in getting this program here are the files that you want. These are the latest updates that I downloaded just before writing this. The plugins file is not absolutely necessary but it will limit irfanviews ability to handle as many different file formats.

The 2 files that you want are "iview425_setup.exe" and "irfanview_plugins_425_setup.exe"

iview425_setup.exe

irfanview_plugins_425_setup.exe
http://www.tucows.com/preview/415586

Here is a link to some video tutorials to help you get the most out of irfanview. There are many different subjects covered using ifranview as photo editing software.

Now before anybody thinks that I am good at this, let me tell you that I'm not. If you can read through the help file in irfanview you will be able to use and enjoy it.

I realize that there are other good programs available. If someone else wants to add them in here, its OK with me.

Your comments and questions are welcome. I'll try and answer them.

Cheers

Good, better, best.
Never let it rest,
'til your good is better,
and your better best

It would be great if there was some kind of universal language between different cameras. So that they could read that exif info of picture, and adjust settings accordingly, considering environmental factors. I guess that there would be a huge improvement in quality of pictures. Nowadays, when automation is the word, it should be possible? :smart:
