Another Marylander invades MM.
« on: November 12, 2009, 01:00:53 AM »
Hi all,

I've been here a few times to check out threads I've found via Google searches. Thought it was time to join YAFS! (Yet Another Forum Site!)  :)

I've been whacking on bits of metal for a little more than a year. I bought a little Horrible Fright, er, I mean Harbor Freight 7 x 10 lathe in the summer of 2008. The 7x10 has been retired. I'm in the process of fitting out a very old Rivett #8 benchtop precision lathe. I also have a Taig milling machine as well as the usual suspects like bench grinders, drill press, hydraulic press etc in the shop which lives in a spare bedroom of my home.

I also am in the middle of cleaning up and placing a little Craftsman #109 lathe into service. I also have a 1945 Rivett #918 turret lathe awaiting it's turn to be cleaned up and put into service. Also in my pile of things to rebuild are another Rivett #8 (Yes, I have 2) and a 1920-1930 era Rivett #608. Somewhere in the pile of stuffs is also a tiny little Chinese 3-in-1 machine in need of a lot of TLC.

I like hacking on small gasoline engines as well as little compressed air and steam engines. I also like making tools and accessories for my machines.

I'll post some photos of the workshop over the weekend as I am in the middle of reorganizing and cleanup in the shop.

Welcome, you seem to have a good start at rebuilding older machinery.
I am still trying to find some to rebuild.
Everyone here is informative and nice.

Thanks for the welcome! I see a few user names I recognize from the HMEM forums are over here too...

Here is a small bit of tease...

This is my 1909 Rivett #8 I'm in the middle of cleaning up and making some missing parts for:

Here is a tool post I made for the Craftsman #109 lathe:

Cheers!

Hello twmaster.

I am too from the great State of Maryland, up here north on the eastern shore. I see your into old machinery, so am I,  and I cruise the auction scene here in PA/ Jersey and Delaware and come across old little gems now and then let me know if you need anything.  Welcome   Anthony.
If you cant fix it, get another hobby.

Those Rivetts do look like nice lathes
You will find it a distinct help… if you know and look as if you know what you are doing. (IRS training manual)
