Self-replicating machines.... almost
« on: January 28, 2011, 04:18:12 PM »
Whilst poking around t'interwebs, like you do, I stumbled across this interesting looking piece of kit:

http://reprap.org/wiki/Main_Page

Strikes me that RepRap is the mad-modder's dream... if only it could be made to print aluminium
Cheers!
Ade.

There is a private firm advertising such a machine for sale here in Denmark, interesting but i doubt if its as simple as they make it seem.
See pictures and videos of my collection:

So we can see where this is going.....

Kenneth sorts one out through his club contacts (I'm assuming of course that you want one?? Got to be useful in making robot bits? :borg: ) and then A N Other member close to Kenneth gets one or more made with his help..... And so the madmodder plastic self replicating reprap doofor revolution slowly takes hold   :borg:

No.... I'm serious!   By the time one makes it to the UK members in kit form parts from one or many US member sources I'll Quite possibly have enough money to pay for all the parts

got to be worth it to many members on here..... Even if just for the complete fun/nut factor   :ddb:  :loco:  :ddb:

I was looking at this before Christmas, they have an excellent IRC channel, someone always on willing to talk and help. They also have a few UK working groups, Sheffield would be my nearest but all the forums are listed here to find your local group:

http://reprap.org/wiki/RUG

They also apparently will be having a stand on the UK  MakerFaire in March http://www.makerfaireuk.com/

Lots of the kit can be purchased, some on ebay, so in reality you don`t need to find someone to replicate the parts.

....... I decided it was too complex for me and I`d break it!

The next step,

"Exciting news from the rapid prototyping world: For those of you put off by the plastic-like consistency of most RP'd parts, the i.materialise shop has just announced the ability to crank out custom titanium parts. "
