My new Mill stand
« on: July 27, 2011, 01:52:17 PM »
Well it only took 3 years,  :headbang:  but I finally have the stand that is perfect (for me).

This is the stock stand that came with the Mill, and although it is quite sturdy, it's too short, the storage space is only 1 shelf and it weighs in at about 60Lbs\27Kgs.

Here is the new stand, it is a 'Side Rider' cabinet from Grey Tools.

Of course, being a Madmodder I could not just leave it alone.    Out of the box the stand is 98Lbs\45Kgs, I added two lengths of 3" x .250" C Channel for the machine mounts at the base.

I also added 3, 2.5" x 2.5" x .250" Angle Iron to the underside of the top.

I also added 6 1/2" plates of mild steel, 2 in the base, 2 on top - under the chip tray and 2 above the chip tray.  Based on using .291Lbs\Cu In, I calculate the stand now weighs in at a little over 300Lbs\135Kgs not including the Mill or tooling in storage. :headbang:

Cheers,
Chazz

.291lbs/in3? Steel must be heavier where you live! .283lbs/in3 is what it weighs here in Canada!  :whip:
