Nice old surface gauge
« on: August 21, 2011, 04:09:10 AM »

Picked this up at a garage sale for $1.

These old surface gauges sure look nice.

Does anyone collect these?

No brand on it  - just the owners name.

Model Steam Engine "Standard Details"
« Reply #1 on: September 25, 2011, 11:55:26 AM »
Hi Folks,

Now then.... I've acquired a cast iron cylinder casting which I would like to use for a horizontal type Mill Engine. There is enough "meat" in it for about 3/4" bore X 1 1/4" stroke.

I'm fairly sure that I can work out all the dimensions etc without getting into too much bother, well if you don't try you'll never learn!

I really would like to make it look as if its been properly "engineered".

So what I'm after is a source of what I call "standard details",  i.e. various model designs for connecting rods, big and little end bearings, bearing blocks, eccentric sheaves, piston rod glands etc and possibly reversing gear outlines like Stevensons link.

Can anyone recommend a book (currently available in the UK) which would help?
