scott cam/crank
« on: November 13, 2011, 09:02:33 PM »
Hi everyone, newbie on madmodder.

I have made the Bruce Engineering Scott flame licker, but cant get it to run continuously, I cant make head nor tail of the timing instructions from the plans. 30 degs from what?, what is bottom dead centre? the open end of the cylinder or the flame end?
If somebody could do a piccy or drawing of the relationship between the cam and the crank disk I  could then work the rest out.

Cheers
Keith

Do a search, Bogstandard has done a very detailed build diary for this engine together with all the mods needed to get it to run.

Here you go funny enough it was called "Scott flame licker build"

Hi Chaps
Thanks for the welcomes.
I think I have the cam position close enough to get the engine started.
But I have just spotted another potential problem or two, the drawing notes say "the top of the wick level with the bottom of the flame port", but does not say how long the exposed portion of the wick should be, so I don't know how long to make the wick tube. (I might make it a slide fit in the spirit tank top and solder it up when the position is finalized). I have noticed on YouTube that the scott engines have the flame under the graphite valve as opposed to over the top. I have no intention of using gas, I only use spirit burners. I can feel for the first time in 48 years of modeling that one of my models is going to succumb  to the club hammer.

Cheers Chaps
