18 Volt Battery Pack......What's Wrong With This Picture?
« on: December 08, 2011, 11:33:15 AM »
I took the 800MaH battery pack out of my drill to replace it with some 2500MaH batteries I got . I was attempting to replicate the way they were hooked up when I came across this slight problem as seen in the pic below. Seems one of the batteries was left out of the 'loop'. I can't figure out how this pack would even work. Might explain why the drill was a bit 'sluggish'.

Assuming a nominal 1.2V for a nicad ... it was never 18V anyway ...

13 cells only gives 15.6V

So, if it was Chineeeeeeese .. maybe, as they hold their currency artificially high ...  they do the same with the Volt ???

If they have 13 cells, one as a packer ( ? ) 12 would be OK for 14.4V.

Dunno ??

Life is strange at times .

I think he omitted the other two cells in the first pic - to catch out the unwary. :bugeye:

Quite how it works though, is anyone's guess...unless there is a connection in the case perhaps

Next to that cell with the question mark on the second picture you can see the tab going down. It must me soldered to the side of the cell.

I count 15......

13 in the first pic + two below=15...*1.2= 18volts...

Although 1.2v is a nominal voltage, my 4 cell radio receiver packs come fresh off charge at around 5.5v-5.6v

Noitoen...Seems you have X-Ray vision. You were absolutely correct. I pulled the tape off and sread the batteries. It was indeed soldered to the side of the battery. Can I borrow your eyeballs?

What's wrong with this picture?  Well, about the third time I looked at I saw it!

"RECHAREABLE"

I'm guessing someone else saw it before me with how closely everyone has been scrutinizing the photo, but man, I love chinglish.

Another good eye! You guys are sharp.  I'm going to take some pictures of my shop floor. Maybe you guys can find the parts I dropped.
