The first Webley air rifle..
« on: January 07, 2012, 06:47:50 PM »
I just acquired one!!

A Webley mk1 air rifle, 177cal serial# 486, this is one of the last to have the acid etching rather tha the 'rolled in' text..
Webley apparently produced around 1500 of these little rifles from 1926 to 1929 so I guess mine was made around 1927..

The gun is in great condition to say it's over 80 years old  :bugeye:

I seem to have a knack of making anything I photgraph look bad!- this is no exception, it really does look nicer in the steel  :bang:

Cheers, John

Nice find, John. It has obviously been stored well for the last 80 years, and it is nice to know that it is now in good hands for a few decades more.

You can see the evolution of the "Service Mk II" in there, can't you?

Congrats on the addition to your collection.

I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short

Many thanks Andy

It shoots very nicely for an 84 year old

Wow. I would really like to find something like that over here. I love things that have that kind of "history".
A nice bit of kit, that.

Interesting looking air gun.  I like the way it looks.  How is it powered?

Look after it John, thats a fine example made in Birmingham.

Slightly ajar, some of the best guns ever made were made in Birmingham and sold on for others to put their name on.

Hi
John
That is a very nice air rifle in great condition, but not that good that you would be afraid to use it
