3 Axis DRO on to a 6 26 mill
« on: March 25, 2012, 04:39:08 PM »
Hi
Lads
When i bought my 6 26 mill (second hand) it came with a Newall 2 axis DRO this proved to be very handy but unreliable.
It cost me £100 plus insured postage for a new screen
After a few weeks the display went haywire so i gave up with it and learned to count in 125 s
My daughter said she knew a bloke who was a machine maintenance man ,I had a word with him but he could not help me.
He rang me last week saying they were scrapping a mill with a 3 axis DRO would it be any use to me
It arrived yesterday after forcing the bloke to take a few quid for a drink i set about installing it
It must have been on a big machine the X axis scale was 6 feet long.
The pictures should tell it all , not finished but working

I was not sure about cutting the scales so i left the long one for the z axis they cut fine

Nicely Done, John...

I notice you left enough room for the knee to go right down without hardware scraping the paint off the mill column, unlike the (now departed) "apprentice"...

From the look of the cut off scale, the internal gubbins might be the same as the Easson scales - would have to try a glass from one with a reader from the other to be sure!

Is the riser block on the mill All Your Own Work? I've always thoght the 626 doesn't have enough table-to-spindle, that looks like good solution!

John,

Nicely done,

So now you don't have to count at all.  :headbang:
