PVC coated Aluminium sheet - "elephant hide"
« on: November 01, 2012, 01:50:06 PM »
Hi,

I've been trying to source some PVC coated aluminium. Not that many moons ago we used to buy it from RS in small sheets which we refered to as 'elephant hide' .

The PVC coating is similar to the coating used on steel roofing/sidings sheet - tough as a tough thing.

Anyone know what i mean and know of a source?

1.8mm thick with a grey coating.
what sort of quantity were you looking for?

Roy
I used to be confused, now I just don't know.

For now I need a piece 700 x500

But, I'd really like to know a commercial supplier (just in case the this thing I'm building actually sells)

Is there any trade name or suppliers name on it?

Maybe you could get an outfit liks this, which says it does textured finishes, to powder coat some aluminium for you:

Probably no good unless/until you go into mass production, unless you can persuade them to do you a fairly large sample.

I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short

Worst case you could make your own using a product similar to this. http://www.herculiner.com/

Thanks,
That's interesting stuff - but is too industrial for the our rather 'arty' purpose (professional music mixing desk) :)

That may be the answer if all else fails

It just seems strange to me how a material, that was used everywhere in the electronics industry,  has just vanished.
