Saving Posting Draft.
« on: February 25, 2009, 02:05:07 AM »
Well....... I spent an hour or so last night, between 1 1/2 finger typing & photobucket. Drafting a posting......  ::)

Still not sorted / ready for posting, I highlighted to save to an office document..... As I do regularly on my other forum....

I couldn`t save the bloody thing!!!!!!  :bugeye:

Had to abandon all that work......  :bang: :bang: :bang:

I were a bit miffed....... To say the least!  ::)

Is it me?

Or a Forum Foible?

Not sure.. never tried to make a draft post.. but when that happens.. or it goes wierd on me.. I hit back.. and then CTRL-A, to select EVERYTHIGN IN THE POST..... then CTRL-C to copy.... open Microsoft Word, Or Notepad.. or whatever is handy.. and paste everythig there with a CTRL-V.

Once things are sorted.. I can go copy and paste it back into the Forum post.

CTRL-A (Selects everything in the window that is highlighted)
CTRL-C (Copies everythig Selected)
CTRL-V (Pastes Everythig Selected)

Many know these.. many dont. You simply never know. If its new to ya.. woooo!!.. It its Not.. No harm no foul

Scott,
Thank you for the tips!

Most of that is lost on me, I am not of the computer generation, and it`s uphill sometimes...... ::)

I will have to make a note, for next time.....

Just tried your method Scott.

The screen turned grey & it just sat there sulking, untill I rebooted.

Shorter postings from now on......  ::)

David,

I do all my compiling actually on site.

I sort out all the picture url's and put them into desktop notepad, putting them in the correct order plus five spaces in between.

Then I just copy and paste that onto the post reply bit.

Then by previewing every so often, I can see how the text and pictures are marrying up. I do a highlight and copy of everything every so often, just in case something does go wrong.

So if you see me online but nothing is happening, I am busy compiling my latest load of bulls**t.

John

It's not just you nor is it just here. I have seen that issue on other sites as well. Or should I say issues like that. I am not sure if it is the softwar or if it is the users PC that causes the problem. One thing that I see my wife do when she composes long posts... She creates the post in a word document first and then copies and pastes it in. I will look around and see if it is something from here.

I also compose long postings in word with promps where the pics are to go then copy and paste it into the forum.  You can always tell when I've done a post this way :-

No spelling mistakes  :headbang:

I was ok starting in Open Office (Ubuntu), & pasting in.
The problem came when I ran out of time to finish, & tried to copy & paste back into document to save for another day.

This always works perfectly with my other forum......  ::)

Hey David,

I'm asuming you are using Firefox/Mozilla as your web browser?

There is a known issue with the Gnome clipboard manager in some versions of Ubuntu you could try to install the Parcelite clipboard manager which will almost certainly solve your problems by all accounts.

The download link is herehttp://parcellite.sourceforge.net/

Well....... It`s happened again!

Or, rather it hasn`t.......  ::)

I know nothing about this box of buttons.
Only that I`m on Ubuntu & Firefox, and it works for me...... Mostly!

When it goes wrong, my computer wizz, 37yr old son eventually calls in and sorts it.....Usually.

SEVEN times over, it has copied & pasted perfectly...... When he was here this afternoon.  :bang: :bang:

It has just operated perfectly again, posting Chester Mini Mill......  ::)

I just wish he wouldn`t laugh so much, when he`s on his way home.......

David H,

Thanks for the link.
Something to save for the future, maybe.......
