I found this video very useful, thanks for posting.

My wife often points out that I should not get frustrated with my new hobby and swear, well I showed her the end of this video and told her this is how the experts do it, she can see the funny side now.

Cheers Mick

Super vid John! always makes me laugh, worthy of Eric Morecambe/Chaplin ilk, the point is John is deadly serious with his vids, comes from the heart & many's the time I've done the same or similar in one form or t'other over my years in the engineering business from apprentice to retirement, usually accompanied with 'what the f***k' or s**t or similar. Pity John has decided to change his moniker to 'Geordie John' much preferred his original, a true Geordie & northern sense of humour.

Regards from a Smoggielander.

I have read many times in modelmaking magazines, when doing repetative jobs in a 4 jaw chuck to loosen only 2 jaws and note which ones these are. Place the next part in the chuck and tighten only these 2 jaws and it will run concentric. I have been following this method for over forty years and so far it has`nt worked out once and I have had to clock it in every time, I suppose it must work for some people or they would not recomend it. has anybody had any luck?.

Hi John,

Thanks for the video. Much better for us beginners seeing someone do it rather than reading it in a book (which I do as well). The clip at the end just tops it off.    Keep 'em coming. I'm learning a new language as well.

slamming the piece back in the 4 jaw never works.  opening up just 2 jaws and reversing  never works. the closest you can get is by using collets and even then its touchy.

i always plan for no re-set ups, if I have too clocking in always has to be done, and then thats done with a collet holder for the job if  i am turning or milling or if too large i have a spigot on the mill that has my thread for the chuck, again thats 1 or so thou out.

Anthony.
If you cant fix it, get another hobby.

Not much I can add to what's already been said, but definitely enjoy your videos John.  Of course, I'm straining the whole time to understand your accent but that's my problem not yours ;)  I hate watching videos where everything happens perfectly the first time, because that usually isn't the way it goes!

I wish I had access to quality videos like this when I first started machining.  I would have gotten off the ground much quicker than I did.
