I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short

That's not swarf - that's bar stock.

Watch the lefthand side from 2.00 to 2.10 to see the swarf brush catch fire.

There doesn't seem to be any coolant.

I love seeing the chipping "grow", from right to left.

The Tip Rep always insisted, no coolant. As this creates rapid temperature changes at the tips cutting edge. Causing cracking..  :smart:

Hi Andy,

That machining center is a nice bit of kit, it would need to be capable of those metal removal rates to justity its initial and running costs. Wouldn't surprise me if it was running 24/7.
Nice to see some real engineering.
                                                  Cheers David

Running either carbide or ceramic inserts ive learned that u need chip clearing but no coolant.  The coolant creates microcracks by shocking the surface.
Machinery: Optimum D320x920, Optimum BF20L, Aciera F3. -- I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. http://www.roughedge.se/blogg/

Aye, when i was a lad and bits of metal that size came in for work i was given a file, a square, a scraper and a 12" rule and told to get on with it !

Mike

PS :  It was a bastard cut file though .   :)  :)  :)
