Shaper refurb

Hey guys I'm 18 and live in Australia I have just finished restoring my first machine tool an atlas 7b  metal shaper , I have hand scraped the ways ,remade the downfeed screw and repaired a broken feed gear housing.

Great to see your project its well worth while, i finished a major repair myself lately on my own machine and one of the things i had to do was exactly what your doing, My bevel smashed as its made of this Zymak stuff, so i purchased a steel made set and installed it, it was not all that expensive i just purchased some blanks and drilled the taper hole, made one heck of a difference to the operating of it. This way it would be a repair for life!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you live in Australia and get hammered on buying stuff financially but if you wish i could post what i purchased and see if you could do the same there.

                Nice well equiped  workshop you have there, the shaper will be a useful addition. The hard graft of scraping now out of the way, you will soon be up and running.

Andre, great work, going to be worth when you are done, I have a SB and the Atlas, if I had only one to own it would be the Atlas it is a heavier built and easier to adjust for cutting, on the Shaper group at Yahoo that Red, White & Blue on, Photos, Joe Guidry is mine, it was a complete tear down and rebuild, after all that work on it I have not used it, did not want to get it dirty but I am going to use it soon, I also have a Cincinnati 36" stroke, hope some day to get it into my shop it is stored some where else, at 6,700 pounds at little hard to move, you enjoy it, glad you got started young, Its Me
