Title: Mach3 and SheetCAM transferability?
Post by: awemawson on October 01, 2016, 11:38:30 AM
I'm negotiating with a private individual to buy a system complete with the PC he is using that is pre-loaded with legal copies of SheetCAM and Mach3.

Now the software is registered in his name - so can he actually sell it to me or is that not legal? No doubt it will still run so long as the licence files are on the PC but is this going to give me upgrade and support issues in the future?

Is there actually any value at all that the seller can claim to be in the package in this situation?

No there is not. The licenses is personal. He can alway install them again on a different computer and then you are the pirate.

Not sure about this with Sheetcam. It seems the license file can only live on one PC so the original owner couldn't reinstall on another PC. (He could tell Sheetcam that his PC had died and they may send him another license.) Reading posts on the Sheetcam forum the license is tied to the name of the person who bought the license. I couldn't see anything about transferring a license from one person to another.

It would be worth emailing Sheetcam to ask.
