I haven't been able to access MEM all day. Keeps saying "server has timed out".
Any one else having problems with it?
Ron
-
I'm getting the same thing Ron - have been for the last 6 hours or so, don't know what's going on.
-
Same problem here in LA.
-
Hi
Same thing is happening here in Canada. I was on about noon (6-7 hours ago) and everything seemed normal.
Cheers
Don
-
Well at least it's not just me. Thanks
Ron
-
Nope, not just you Ron, and it's still out this end

Still no change here - 11 hours later!

Ade must have forgot to top up the meter before he went off on business
Rob
-
I'm trying to get hold of Ade... It seems all the web services on his hosting site are down; not only the MEM Forum.
 Maybe he did forget to top up the credits
Kind regards, Arnold
-
Thanks Guys ,
I was beginning to my post of the bevel gear cutting had had an adverse effect. :palm:
Jo

Hi folks,
All back again now, sorry about that. Nothing to do with the meter, I think someone just tripped over the lead & killed it. A hard restart has fixed the problem & MEM is back again....
I'll make sure there are procedures in place to allow for a faster recovery next time, assuming I am not about (because these things only happen when I am away & not able to access t'internet....
Cheers,
Ade.

Hi Guys
After a good festive season has the MEM server tripped a fuse?
I haven't been able to get my daily fix yet :bugeye:
May be Ade might be off on a well deserved holiday,
Bez

It was up for me earlier today but is down now.
-
I will look into it when I get home. On the train right now.
-

I bet he used a token instead of a coin last time a and they :zap: him plus a 100 lines 'I must not use tokens I must use coin of the realm' :)
Pete

I think the forum mods and admins deserve to be paid in coins instead of tokens

I may be wrong but Ade was talking about trying to move MEM onto a virtual server, rather than leving it on the old hardware which had needed a number of hard resets of late.
The sooner it is back the better (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Confused/dazed-2.png)

Still down my end - with the database error message :zap:

Fixed now, sorry again, I forgot to tell Arnold the Db password.... and I was cream crackered yesterday so had sodded off to bed by the time MEM had died. Again.
Jo - currently, MEM is on a Virtual Private Server, i.e. just like a real one, only faked inside a bigger one. The problems are somehow related to the MySQL database & SMF forum software. I had the occasional hard crash when it had just 1 forum on; adding MEM has just made it 100 times worse...
So, the plan is, to find a web host (rather than a dedicated server), with sufficient space for all the attachments, etc., and to move MEM to that. Unfortunatley, it takes time to sort out, which I don't have at the moment. There will be a money cost, but it's minimal and I can deal with that easily.
Currently, I am thinking of staying with Daily, but buying their lower cost web hosting deal, which gives us loads of space, a control panel, and hopefully a lot less crashes (and proper support if it does crash...)
-
Ade I'm sure if you set up a paypal thingee (sorry zee) the members would be happy to help bankroll a site ...with the amount of members it would work out cheap for all and as the way it was set up lets help keep it low cost for the admin as they put countless hours in to keep it running. :headbang: A couple squid, dollars, euros what ever and its done. I don't think you or bogs (John) or anyone else involved with setting up MEM should have to cop it in the wallet for our fix. I'm more than happy to drop a coule bux in.

Hi Pete,
You're probably right, but for the time being, I am quite happy to take on the burden. Once the site has been stable for a while, we'll re-evaluate costs.
To give you some idea, the plan I'm looking at costs £210 for 5 years... that's about 81p a week... hardly worth dipping into anyone else's pocket for that little; plus knowing the generosity of the model engineering guys, I reckon we'd end up so far in surplus we'd have a big pile of cash washing around with nothing to do.... IMHO that's too big a risk to take with other people's money.

Arnold? Eric? Fred? Is that me? Hello? Anyone there? <fiddle> :zap:
Sorry, I may be confusing me with someone else....
Today, _everything_ has gone wrong, I even managed to totally zap my laptop harddrive, which I didn't realise until I rebooted and it wouldn't come back up :bugeye:
2 days work down the river

Fair enough mate but don't be afaid to ask if it gets dearer (as things seem to do) I see your point though the option is there.

Here we go again? down since about 3 PM EST. Is this the changeover or is it just me?
-
Not just you Jerry, me too. Or maybe it's just us.
Rudy

Nope, not just you two, ... Deaded itself here too .
Dave BC

Donald Ducked this end as well
-
Wasn't working for me earlier but seems to be ok now.
-
The server continues to prove troublesome.
I now have some webspace to move the site onto, going to give it a go next week.
Unfortunately, I was out all day hence the long downtime, it's back now.
-
I was out most of the day as well... had no idea it was down.
-
Broke again? :dremel: :zap:
Have you tried turning it off.................... and back on again
I'll get me coat...
Good luck with the move these things are never simple.
-
Honestly, this bl**dy server, if it was a physical machine I would take great pleasure in smashing it into a million pieces with a hammer (after moving the forum off it of course!)
Trying to fix it *again* now.
-
 MEM is down can anyone else get it to load?

All.
The web host for MEM is under DDOS attack - currently all the Linux Shared Platform where MEM is hosted is down... We'll just have to wait for them to sort it out :coffee:.
Kind regards, Arnold
---------------
First Reported: Wednesday 25th February at 15:26
We are experiencing issues on our shared services due to a DDOS attack on our network.
The servers are running and all customer sites and VPS products are present and accessible however the attack may produce very slow response times. If you are experiencing this please refresh your page and try again.
Our engineers have been working on restoring service to full access since the issues first developed and should have this resolved soon.
We will keep this page posted with ongoing updates
Update 15:36
Our Linux Shared Platform is currently offline while we isolate the attack, so websites and FTP will be unavailable.
Other platforms and services are up and running, but will be experiencing slower speeds.
If any customers experience time-outs connecting to email, please do not reset your email passwords. The error will most likely be due to time-outs connecting to the mail platforms due to the attack, so wait until the all-clear before changing settings.
Next update will be no later than 16:00

MEM is back :D
Jo
-
Just a quick note...
MEM is currently down, as one of the websites co-existing on the server where it is hosted has been infected with a BotNet.
The issue has been reported to the hosting ISP, and we are waiting for them to sort things out.
Kind regards, Arnold
-
Thanks Arnold
I have been getting the same error ,but sometimes I get half a page
Stuart
-
Thanks Arnold.
As the forum is down I have no excuse I will have to spend the night with my new fella instead
Jo
-
Problem resolved :D
Jo, it's easy - just switch off the computer(s) and other mobile devices - then you can have as much time as you like with the new fella :headbang:
Kind regards, Arnold
-
Severely snuffed it with a 404 for me.
Anyone else ?? Tried to use non-saved URL but, alas no joy. :(
Dave
-
Opens for me
-
OK here now.
Must have been a transient phenomena
Dave

Sorry I know some of you are missing your daily dose of MEM. Our service provider is busy moving our forum to a new data centre in Slough and some of the VPS services are still off line
I've attached a photo so you know what you are missing
Jo
-
thanks for the update Jo
i thought you might have overloaded the server with pics of all your castings :D
and your right : - that is a very simple steady rest
-
Sorry again .. Our service provider is still having problems with their new set up
Computers who'd have one (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Computer/computer-17.gif)

When will it work again?
Any estimation?
-
It is (currently) working
Jo
-
Sorry I see the MEM server is having problems this morning.
We are waiting for AdeV to get back to us on what the problem may be .
 It is back again, it must be the internet demons at work.
Jo
-
On it's ear'ole now .... :(
Dave
-
Thanks Dave,
I Emailed AdeV over two hours ago about it :(
Problem is he is still on Chinese time...and you know what these newly weds are like they come up with a new set of excuses not to check their Emails....
Jo
-
Know nothing about 'newly-wed'. Never been in that predicament. :D
Maybe the Instructions are in Chinglish ??
Dave
-
At least now we'll have Ade to help us translate our instruction pamphlets via his new bride
-
Apologies gents, I was "fast asleep" when that e-mail came in.....
Looking at it now. Looks like sendmail's gone off on one.
