Title: Electrolysis, and cast iron.
Post by: BITREV8XL on March 01, 2017, 05:29:08 PM
Electrolysis, and cast iron.
I been trawling the net for weeks, and totally confused as to whether electrolysis will harm/damage cast iron.
Has anyone tried it? if so what's your thoughts on it?
Thanks

First let me say welcome to the forum

Could you post an introduction in the Introductions section to let us know what you're up to ?

I've used electrolysis successfully on cast iron several times in the past, but now I'm a convert to using Citric Acid for rust removal as it just more convenient  not needing power supplies etc, and the liquid can safely be poured down the drain.

I agree with Andrew about rust removal. Citric acid does a good job, it is cheap and easy. Why bother with all those other chemicals and electrolysis?

Thanks for the replies
I've already got a 45 gallon tank set up, that I've used for steel parts before, and I can leave parts in for hours to clean it's self
Cheers
