Title: Wanted: Perforated Zinc sheet
Post by: awemawson on August 02, 2015, 01:16:04 PM
Where do I buy perforated zinc sheet these days? Search on ebay and all you get is Meccano  :bang: (of course those are steel strips zinc plated)

I only need a tidly bit about 1.5" x 9" - I've got loads of perforated steel zinc plated, but this is for a sacrificial anode so needs to be all zinc.

Unable to help- meat safes are out of date.

However, you should be able to buy sacrificial zinc from builders etc of steel boat hulls.

Again, Type metal is probably zinc.

Cheers

Lead, Norman, with antimony. I have what must have been a pretty big spill of some at a former newspaper press building. Found it adhering to the basement floor and filling a large crack in the concrete at an optical firm I worked at when they were moving. I asked if i could have it during the move they said, sure, if you can pry it out.

Did so, and now I have it. Lead for sure.

Modern wheel weights are zinc or steel.  Easy to tell apart - but they don't come in perforated sheets.

It might be worth sending a message to this ebay seller

Steve, Years ago  ingots with the stamp 'Tanadac' which came from where it said, but I hadn't a clue until it was analysed to be virtually 100% zinc and claimed to be from the local newspaper offices. Again, I was in the premises earlier and got the word- zinc.  The ingots eventually went to my old night school tutor who had a metal boat- rather than my wooden and glassfibre ones. Long time ago, but wife was looking at some old photos of one of my dinghies last night. Then I was out in the car and was overtaken by  car with an International
Optimist which the kids(then) called the 'kipper box'.

And then I was 'throwing out' realised that the locks on my Spanish windows would be pitted zinc or zinc alloy -
We are only yards from the sea cliffs.

Anyway, aren't Beemers( BMW's)zinc coated? I recall that I was watching a BMW restoration film and the zinc was being pushed back with the spot welder and returned again over the plug.

Regards

Norman

OK I'll fess up

I was going to do a bodge bondo repair on the JCB 803 windscreen frame where it has rusted away to zilch in one place where the wiper arm parks. Most is covered by the window seal which is what has held the water hence the rust. But I've shamed myself into doing a proper job.

Although it originally was 3 mm thick plate so easy to weld a bit in, it's in a confoundedly difficult place to get at. Been doing some experimental welds this evening and I reckon I can just about get at it with a long stick out and turning the gas up (outside welding)

If it works ok I'll post it in the JCB thread, otherwise it'll get covered in bondo and lost
