Title: My New Ball Turner Won't Turn Balls
Post by: snub on April 07, 2017, 06:55:06 PM
They look like an onion, or the roof of the Taj Mahal. I built this after looking at the one that Repton sells. Perhaps there is a design flaw?

The tool tip has to be dead on centre height. If not it turns a conic shape.

That's how you machine aeroplane propeller spinners.

Hmmmmm...the center height appears to be spot on. I'm wondering if maybe the cutting tip is not in the same plane as the pivot, if that would cause this. I will fiddle with it some more.

It's simple, the radius you set your tool to swing at has to be the radius of the bar you're cutting. You're tool swing radius is greater.
