Title: Does anybody know of good plans for a QCTP?
Post by: NickG on February 04, 2009, 05:45:49 AM
I currently only have 1 tool slot in my harrison lathe with is really annoying and time consuming when I come to change tools! I really need a quick change tool post but they are quite expensive so I thought of making one?

I have seen a few different types and the only one that appeals to me is a piston with a cam to lock it up solid, but would be interested to hear other peoples thoughs.

Thanks for those guys. A QCTP may be my next project as it will aid other projects  :proj:  :mmr:

Ya know.. the biggest complaint I have with my QCTP.. I dont have enough holders.

I always seem to need a turning tool I dont have mounted!

Thanks for those links.. instead of buying more.. It would be more.. fun to simply make a few.  :ddb:

feels like he may be sick...

I was going to make one from one of those links. I ended up giving up and buying one. ($99 us). BEST thing i have ever bought. I just need to make about 2 dozen more tool holders! You won't regret making one (or buying). It should be your next project!

I've found a good one on arc eurotrade but it's about £100 so not cheap! But I need to ask myself the question, do I want to spend time making tools or engines! Although I guess it would be sort of satisfying knowing I'd made engines with tooling I'd made!

I need one for my old Stanko from the 1960'es - can I just "scale up" the drawings to fit my needs ?

Best regards

Hi Ksor

Yes  i reckon scaling up will be fine, just keep in mind the size of the tooling you want to use.

Have fun

Stew

PS if you do take the project on don't forget to take plenty of pics  :worthless:

Have fun

You might want to make it from stock a little softer though, depends on your equipment....
