Just a cheap solution for close-in work..  I picked up a combination laser pointer/gooseneck LED light in the checkout queue at Wal-Mart for under US$5.00.  It had a magnetic base, but the magnet wasn't very strong -- so I epoxied on a neodymium (Nd) rare-earth disc magnet to the bottom, so I can put it almost anywhere and have it stick, despite machine vibration.

Et vóilà!

Of course, the gooseneck likes to straighten out a bit after a while; it doesn't keep a sharp bend for any length of time.  But for the price, what the heck.

I got one in the mail at work as a promo.  Damn batteries cost more to replace than getting a whole new on at HF!

I have a few of those floating around the house.

AND! as the late, great Billy Mays would put it.  When you aren't using it to machine parts you can torture your cats with the laser pointer!

Mine love to chase the little red dot around the floor and up the wall.
