New member from Staffordshire
« on: October 01, 2014, 08:00:51 AM »
Hi,
I am very new to machining, and have joined the forum to learn more, pick your brains, and try to resolve teething problems with my mini lathe. :bang:

I need to fix the issues with my compound slide gibs to start with.
With enthusiasm fuelled by some of the threads on here, I plan to make some new ones this weekend that fit the ways better.

Expect plenty of questions!

Hi Ian, and welcome.

I'm sure you will find MM both informative and entertaining. You can't be any greener than me at this game and I've had lots of friendly advice, help and encouragement in here.

Which bit of Staffs are you from? I lived in Lichfield and Alrewas for around 25 years.

Hi Ian
It makes a change (for me) to know a members address. Is the Royal Oak pub still there? Please excuse the memory if I have it wrong, but there was a motorcycle club started there in the mid 60's called The Acorns? Some 50yrs ago!! Aaaaagggh.
Hope you enjoy the forum as much as me.
Pete

The Royal Oak was still a decent village boozer about ten years back: did a lot of dog training in that neck of the woods around then.

It is still there. Been extended a bit over the last few years.
A good pub with beer garden and sells good food at reasonable prices.
(I have no financial links with the place - honest)

Acorns was an AMCA club that used that land together with other clubs later on. Knowns as Gnosal, Knighton and Adbaston, used to watch them as a kid around 76.
Last time raced there was in 1981 got piccies, track still shows up on google maps if you know where to look.
