In that top picture you don't appear to be wearing safety glasses.

Very dangerous when grinding.

Believe me ,  I have twice has to go to hospital to have metal removed from my eyes.  And on both occasions I was wearing them.

Don't risk it.

Ciao DavidA, thanks for your suggestion, but only for this picture, I made beautiful :),  I work always using safety glasses and all necessary in my daily work.

Looks like you've made a surface plate ala Gingery as well -- glass on automotive putty.

I put in many hours of scraping on the lathe bed. The carriages were easier.
I love it when a Plan B comes together!
