Existing software will need to be recompiled - meaning converted into a language the CPU understands - to take best advantage of the switch to the new multi-core processor.

Yes it's an ARM v7 quad instead of V6 single. There's the rub. That will likely take awhile.

But meanwhile it will do what the current models do at about the same speed.

My B+ is overclocked to 900 mhz, currently, so performance will remain competitive. Also it will be fine as a dedicated CNC Interface board until the time comes to plunk down another $35 for some other purpose.

The big question to me is when will they come out with the long promised cheap touchscreen?

Nice... thanks for the heads up, I might have to  buy one of those... I'll wait until Farnell has them back in stock, though, it's a bit cheaper...

I see Microsoft couldn't keep their hands off and have made windows 10 to run on it. There goes the positivity of exposing people to the power of linux.

Chris ,MSW10 probably will run slow though, and with other faster and freer alternative OS's installable on simple command, it may expose many more people eventually to Linux.

Good alternative platform since it isn't tied up with restrictive bootloaders like everything else being manufactured these days. Ironic that MS is doing this (I'm guessing) to break Google's march towards monopoly.
