I have to brag just a little.
« on: April 18, 2009, 08:18:08 PM »
We just returned from the 75th annual Poetry Society of Oklahoma's awards ceremony. My daughter Jessica was awarded first place in the state for her grade level, 3rd. She was also named the Youth Poet Laureate for the State of Oklahoma for 2009-2010!! This is an honor handed down to 1 child a year by the Governor. Needless to say we are stoked!!!    :ddb:  :ddb:  :ddb:

W,

I wouldn't call it bragging, it is just you rejoicing that you have raised young Jessica to be an outstanding young individual.

Jessica needs congratulating on her fabulous achievements, and so do you for getting her there.

Well done.

Well done Jessica.   Now you have to let Dad :coffee: grant you access to his shop so you can create poetry in metal. :hammer:

It would be nice if there are some youngsters out there with a serious case of :proj: that would post here.  I don't believe that all of the younger set is so addicted to video games and utube  that they are not getting into the shops and being creative.. Post those projects, you will be surprised at the encouragement an d support that you receive..

Our local high school has a good shop/vocational program that works.  My daughter made a cold chisel for her class project, started with a peiece of round stock and proceded to heat and beat it into submission, hex shape 6" long, heat treated  and polished.  Then presented it to me and I don't have the heart to hit with a hammer.  Got a B+ for her efforts and thanks from Dad

Lets see what the kids can do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cliff,

My grandson, aged 14, who lives with us, has recently presented me with a 2MT release taper, that he made during a work experience program. He is just starting his career schooling in engineering, and hopes to go into Bentley Motors on an apprenticeship in a couple of years time, and is gearing his remaining time at school to get the qualifications he requires.

He will be joining me a little later this year in my workshop, to give him the basics in machining. He should just about get it all done by the time he starts his apprenticeship, if he sticks at it.

Even if he doesn't need it in that career, he will still have a good understanding in machining, which will assist him throughout his life, even if it is just how to recognise how parts are made.

The kids nowadays need as much help and encouragement they can get.
