Hello from Birmingham
« on: March 25, 2015, 03:01:58 PM »
Hello mad modders

My names Mani and I'm from the west Midlands I was informed to this forum by John as in Mr doubleboost. I also came across this forum via searching for Harrison l5 restoration. I stumbled across mick toons resto. What a fab result he concluded to.

I have inherited my fathers Harrison l5 lathe with some tooling, although it's not in the best of states. It's my next project. I am looking to start my own machine shop for my own hobby pleasure and at some point will be looking to purchase a milling machine. My interests are largely in engines be it two or four stroke. I collect rc engines from around the world mainly nitro marine engines.

I hope to get some pics up of the lathe as I need some help getting it apart! But will be posting in the appropriate section

Hi Mani,

As you are in the centre of the old UK engineering word no doubt we will see you on direct competition with those Geordie blokes when it comes to car boot finds.

Dave.

p.s.  This may come in handy,  particularly for our US colleagues.

Hi Mani, welcome to the madhouse. Be interested to see some pics of your Harrison 15,I have the 12" swing L6 model. Had the gearbox apart and rebuilt a few months back so maybe some similarities in the dismantling process.....OZ.

Some pics of the old l5 it's in relatively good condition. I would like to clean it down and change all fluids and grease but have come to a halt for now as I've got exams over the next 9 weeks  it hasn't been used for the last 22 years or so and I checked the oil in the headstock which seems to have pulled all the moisture out of the air and turned the oil white!!! It runs though :D

Mani,it looks a very serviceable machine, get her cleaned down and perhaps a fresh coat of paint and things will look a whole lot better. The old gear oil will indeed have absorbed moisture over the years.

Do you have much in the way of tooling or attachments for this lathe?.......OZ.
