Are you getting this ?
« on: May 02, 2015, 02:15:20 PM »
Recently my email in-box has acquired a new feature I don't like but can't get rid of.

The top of my list of emails is always an advert.
It has an 'S' in the date column and where the little tick boxes are it shows a thumbnail picture.

Because of this picture there is no access to the box and thus I can't tick it for deletion.

It looks like some kind of sticky.

My email client is Yahoo.

Anyone else getting this ?

Dave.

Yes Dave,

I too am getting this and it is an annoyance. There's no chance of deleting it. I'm with BT and they have been telling me for two years that they are ditching Yahoo but no sign yet. As well as the advert 'improvement" I can now only have one email open at a time so it's very difficult if you're writing an email and want to refer to an earlier one. I have to save it as a draft to do this now and I didn't have to a few days ago. That's progress I suppose.  :(

Edit: Not as bad as I thought - there is a setting for having several tabs open - phew!

I paid about £11.00 I think to Yahoo to not see the adverts. This is an annual fee but at least it stopps the ads.

Can't you guys run a local client and just download mail?

Edit......I see, Yahoo tries to make a premium out of that.

Well, opensource to the rescue:

Steve,

I'm sticking with webmail thanks. I can access it on my laptop, desktop, iPhone, tablet and any internet connected device (maybe even on those running the dreaded Linux). I do download copies to Outlook which I sync between my laptop and desktop but that's only insurance in case some b*****d in Nigeria hacks my webmail account again and deletes everything.

The ad is only a small annoyance to me.

Cheers.

Phil I do the same, but also (and mainly) use a local email client. I set it not to delete from the server on download, so I can also access mail from a browser based web client when away. That gives two copies of mail in case bad stuff happens and the ability to write offline.

Well,  good to see that I'm not the only one.

I have decided to just ignore it. If I don't open it it just sits there anyway.

What I do find annoying is that these things are often supposed to be sent out as 'targeted' information; based on what may be of interest to you.

The present one is from Capital One, trying to get me to have one of their cards.  I already do. You'd think they would know that.

And the one suggesting my mother would like flowers form her birthday. Maybe she would,  but she died fifteen year ago.

Ah well, such is modern life.
