Building a water feed pump/hydraulic pump to ¾ TE
« on: September 02, 2015, 03:12:44 AM »
My next project is to construct a pump to add a hydraulic lift to my TE and second as a boiler feed pump. The pump is 15mm ID double acting utilizing an eccentric gear driven of the drive shaft.

I have the mechanics in hand but not experienced in using seals and O rings for the piston. I am planning on using a regular 3mm thk. Rubber O ring, is there any preferable material or alternative seals that would be better suited.

Also what oversize O ring shall I use? Would an O ring 0.5mm over the size of the piston with the remaining 2.5mm housed within a grove in the piston  be ok or is there a formula for this.

Any advice on design or experience would be appreciated.

Regards Michael

Google is awash with data and selection info on sizes and types of O ring....
Here's one such example....
