Anyone know of a documented motor..
« on: October 12, 2015, 03:53:55 PM »
That wasnt a model, homecast, machined and assembled, but a 1:1 motor. Im been looking around and it seems no one has been up to the task.. but am i wrong?

Could be punctuation marks in funny way?

I'll get it as he is asking that "has anybody made a real size combustion engine from from scrap, not a model engine?".

I have seen here vintage V-type motorbike engine that was fabricated. Is casting requirement?

Yeah well casting is the fun part i guess. And yeah i saw that V-Twin bike motor, but isnt that basicly a model engine? Im thinking of the V8s and flathead engine builds.. but from scratch, cast and built.

These people in Australia are making a great job of making Austin Healey 3000 engines:

There was a guy who started to build an engine for the moto3 (before it became a single engine series) series. He had a blog going... got quite far but I haven't seen anything lately nor can I find the blog.

There have been a few bike builders who built there own engines.
Science is fun.

We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.

That healey motor was amazing - thats what im taling about. Wonder how they made the molds.. most likely cnc'd out of some lightweight concrete material im guessing, doesnt seem to be sand molds anyway, the cores seems to be usual sand tho.

It may be on that site - not looked in detail, but a few years ago when I had a 1965 Austin Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk11 (and had the current interest)  I came across a series entirely about making that set of castings and other bits for the engine. I seem to remember that there were videos too.

Sadly now sold Oz. I actually found it rather fast for my reactions these days - it was only going out once a year for it's annual MOT

Hi All,
There are a fair few business's out there providing all kinds of castings and machined parts for "replica" classic engines,
http://www.mfcpatterns-castings.co.uk/page2.htm
These guys build complete JAP replica engines from  the castings
http://cameronracingengines.com/#home

If one has the finances or skills then you can buy or build most of the popular race bikes from the fifties
Manx Nortons, Matchless G50's 7R AJS, BSA Gold Star and Vincent V twin engine

These guys build and race the fabulous MV Agusta and Gilera multi cylinder race bikes
http://www.mv-agusta.co.uk/us.html

One of my current projects is building a BSA gold Star 500cc engine using new replica alloy cylinder and head
plus a mix of new replica and reconditioned original parts

Cheers
John
