How do I adjust powerfeed motor?
« on: May 01, 2009, 12:06:13 AM »
Background: I have a Grizzly SX3 mill with the  Griz powerfeed on the X axis. I have a DRO installed on the mill. Without the power feed installed, the X axis works very smoothly and has minimal backlash. It is easy to move to a predetermined location on the X axis manually. When I connect the powerfeed to the X axis, put it in the neutral travel position i.e. can be move in either direction, the X axis travel is affected by the resistance of the motor to rotational force. This is not noticeable when traveling long distances, but when I try to set the DRO at a given distance and am turning the handwheel very slowly the resistance from the motor causes the DRO to jump .0003 to .0004 when the resistance is overcome. Is there someway that the motor can be tweaked to allow the motor to be turned smoothly by hand? Or am I expecting too much? :bang:

Would appreciate your comments/recommendations.

Cheers,

Andy
