Changing from Windows 7 to Windows 10
« on: January 31, 2016, 02:05:00 AM »
There is a long story about my efforts to install W10 on my laptop but the result is that due to a dropoff on my part I have lost the link to a forum I like to use.

IDF50 is no longer and it was temporarily replaced by IDF50 lifeboat. However the lifeboat has also been replaced by a more permanent forum serving the same posters and it is the details of the replacement forum that I have lost.

Hi Rob, IDF50 stands for I don't feel 50, probably like most of us on here!

Andrew, it would be most helpful if you could let me know the web address where you saw the posting pease. By the way Ii do miss your treatment of the dumper

Hi John, the url is:

http://www.idf50lifeboat.co.uk/

Dumper on hold until weather improves and I'm back off light duties (hernia op). I have to change the spool valve that tips it, and the replacement needs an adaptor plate fabricating as the mount is different. I also have to replace the seals in the tipper ram - got them but not doing it just now.

Spending my time trying to learn Fusion 360 - in particular how to edit and create custom post processors as none of my CNC machines are very standard !

Take it easy for now Andrew, I think I might have one of those hernia things waiting in the wings.

Just now I'm trying to get to grips with the way W10 is arranged. Having come from W7 I'm gradually finding where they have hidden the functions that I like to use!!! Why things had to change beats me. I tried various ways to upgrade using the windows prompt on the taskbar but what ever I did ended in failure, usually right at the end of a long period of activity. Fortunately my Son is a bit of a wizard with computers or so it seems to me and he came up with a solution. I prepared a system rescue disk and with that I could wipe the raid 1 hard drives. Having done that I used the W10.iso disk I'd previously downloaded and it all just fell into place.

So that is where I've got to, still a bit more to do to get the laptop into an style I like.

I've bottled out at the moment !

I've built a 64 bit machine specifically to experiment with Fusion 360, and I had intended to upgrade it to Windows 10 before downloading Fusion. However I decided that I didn't want two interacting learning curves side swiping at me at the same time  :bugeye:

I've got Fusion 360 up and running - the CAD side seems pretty good, and the CAM for standard G code output seems ok. However I need to make custom post processors for the Mill (Heidenhain 355 control), the Wire EDM (tweaked Fanuc 6M) and the Traub Lathe(Traub TX8F which is a tweaked Mitsubishi Meldas V320)

The actual construction of the post processors is reasonably straight forwards except it's one flat file of C like code unlike something like FeatureCAM where each action has it's own neat little section - definitely headache territory

What makes it complicated is the way Autodesk have 'covered their tracks' with lots of the stuff you need to navigate to (on your own disk!) being in hidden folders with arcane hexadecimal names like:

"6a0c9611291d45bb9226980209917c3d"

(That's part of the path to the launcher)

Just had a 45 minute session of   and retired for some  :coffee: :coffee:

Dave,

It doesn't look like it. Here is the parent website for you to look through.

John,

Thanks.

It does appear to be mostly topical stuff.
