I offered to cut some gears for my buddies truck.
It’s been many years since I’ve done it and had to retrieve the indexer and instructions from the dust. It took a bit to retrain my brain and test on some plastic scrap.
The original ratio was 16/48. or 3 to1
My cutters are 20P- just to make the math easy.
In order to hit the gear diameters I’d have 19/56 or 2.5 to 1.
He said that it be fine. But I had to order a #6 cutter. Since I wanted to get this done, before next years snow, I ordered one off flea bay, even though it was 1 inch bore.
I found in my little gear cutting box a one inch arbor that hadn’t been finished. Some how 20 years ago I thought I might need one-I guess? I put it in the lathe and sized the clamping end. Fit a collar and a drive pin.
I hacked up a piece of aluminum plate, drilled some holes, spun it into a gear blank, which fits the drive dog.
I'll add more later.....
