Which inserts for 45 degree mill SEKT 1204 - SEHT 1204
« on: September 09, 2016, 02:23:43 AM »
Ordered a cheap body of this description: KM12-50-22-4T Milling Cutter for SEKT 1204 - SEHT 1204 Inserts 50mm diameter 4 Teeth

My mill has about 3 kW max. 700 rpm. Slow, I know.

I will be milling mostly normal structural steel, often no description hot rolled stock. Sometimes cast irot, some GRP500 and scrappy finds. Sometimes aluminium, which ofcource needs inserts made only for aluminium.

But, what is the tactical differece between SEKT and SEHT in my aplication? * Apparently tolerance has little effect on this.

Is there reasonable quality ebay finds available or are most junk on "Korloy" box? Real Korloys are pretty decent. I don't want to spend 10€ a piece if reasonable quality is 30€/box, but I'm not paying anything on junk.

Vs. these are cheaper, about mid price (but I don't know if they are more economical than brand name insers):

On lathe tools I often go to Lamina inserts, expensive but one insert does most of the materials and lasts long.

Probably will buy real brand name inserts from reputable source, but while rummagin trough my stuff I remembed a small cardboard box that I was given least 10 years ago. It has over 10 boxes of new Widia SDHW 090308 insers. They are never used, in their original boxes and I'm looking for a mills for them.

The problem is that I can find only very industrial price and special mills for them. However, I can find right size and price 45° chamfer and end mills for SDKT 09T308 insert.
* Size, clearance angle, thickness, hole etc. is very much the same, tolerance very slightly different
* chipbreaker is different.... SDHW insert has flat top, SDKT has a one sided chip breaker.

Would it still work and how different it would be?

I use these as SEKT, high polish ones for aluminium from Korloy.. Mainly for aluminium and cast iron. SEHT is for steel and stainless. Otherwise the same.
