Doctoring a drill doctor
« on: December 07, 2016, 09:34:27 AM »
Recently I purchased a drill doctor as MSC had them on special offer and although  I can free hand sharpen drills but  have good and bad days  and find smaller sizes a bit of a pain.

Playing around with it I thought of the possibility of using it to sharpen Tungsten electrodes for tig welding

So I made up a plastic adaptor to go into the position used for reliving the drill point

I drilled a 2.4mm  hole through it at about 15 degrees offset to the centre line .

Inserted a 2.4 mm electrode  into the hole and set the plastic adaptor so the electrode would make contact with the diamond grinding wheel .
I made the adaptor so that it is a tight fit in the hole in the drill doctor .
Then turned the electrode with a pin chuck .

The result is very passable     Mike
