My Engines
« on: November 29, 2016, 02:48:44 PM »
Here are a few pictures of my engines. The detailed builds are on MEM.

The first engine was designed and started when I was at secondary school. It was finished over many years as and when workshop facilities became available. It does run, but not very well.

The vertical engine, again my own design, was my reintroduction to model engineering. It was mostly built on a minilathe with a vertical slide for milling. After a lot of fiddling it runs quite well.

The second horizontal engine is an update of the original. It runs quite well and has been capable of delivering 120W from the generator. It's currently being used as a testbed for my mechanical fuel injection system. The first trial was successful in as far as it did run, but needs more detail work.

The 20cc two stoke is intended to be a full diesel with high pressure fuel injection, hence the trials above.
Best regards

Roger

Thank you all. Yes Rob that's a Hobbymat. I started out with an Einhell minilathe and then moved onto the Hobbymat with the BFE milling head.

I have hopefully managed to add some videos of them running:

This is my first engine driving a small generator. The crankshaft doesn't have balance weights so it is a bit lively.

This is the vertical engine running with coil ignition. I have now changed it back to the originaly planned CDI unit.

This is the horizontal engine running with mechanical fuel injection. The carb is just being used as a throttle. There is another carb hanging over the back of the fuel tank that I used to warm the engine up before fitting the injection manifold.

Best regards

Roger

Very nice,Roger. I'm always interested and impressed with the many varied projects that appear on this forum, but I have to confess I have a particular liking for homemade model engines whatever they're powered by.....OZ.
Helixes aren't always downward spirals, sometimes they're screwed up
