Hello from Scotland
« on: December 22, 2016, 02:17:05 PM »
Just realised it would be bad manners not to introduce myself.  I'm Martin from Fife in Scotland.  During the day I repair wood working machinery (from multi million pound lines down to humble sawbenches). At home I'm into motorbikes (I have a couple of Beamers), I also have a '71 Land Rover. I have a modest garage workshop that houses a pair of Viceroy lathes, a Clarke CMD300 mill and assorted other small workshop machines.

Hello kayzed1

I have an '99 F650ST (the one with the rotax 650 single engine) and I have a '08 F650GS ( the one with the 800 twin engine).  The ST tends to spend much of its time in the garage because I prefer the GS, but I can't bring myself around to getting rid of the ST

Welcome for the High Plains of West Texas USA, where cotton is King. I'm recently retired four months ago, we moved for my wifes health reasons. Yes to a smaller house and I ended up with a much smaller shop. It's currently full of boxes and things I don't know what to do with. My 1941 Logan lath is somewhere under it all. Three old cars, my welder, motor lift, a 1953 Dayton drill press and lots of fun thing are still in a rented storage warehouse. I still have way to many toys to fit in my new place and having to make difficult choices. I hope to be dug out by spring doing something. Wow I have a very good friend in the Kingdom of Fife, what are the chances of that. This hobby spans the globe.

hi Martin, nice bikes.
I did have a 1994 F650 Funduro until 2007 when i sold it, i did 140,000 on it and only needed a new second gear ( my fault ) and a long story. Two water pump kits.....still going strong with over 180,000 on it now and the guy uses it to get to work every day. I thought about a new one but after the 1200gs's and the electricary stuff i changed my mind. Duff left leg now so it's Honda 750X DCT gear box for me.

Welcome Martin hope your enjoying the seasonal weather your getting up there
I lived and worked in Fife for about 2 years quite a while back and met the wife while I was there when I decided I needed to be back in the midlands to be nearer my kids she came down with me.
Turns out this life c**p is just one big distraction from death but a good one. For the love of god dont give yourself time to think.

Thanks for all of the welcomes people

Pekka. The ZebraDriver comes from an old Land Rover that I used to own, it was painted in zebra stripes. I used this as a forum name on a land rover forum a long time ago and it's kind of stuck.

Hi Martin, welcome to the MadHouse

With a LR like that, I thought your username would have been Daktari !

A '71 vehicle qualifies for free road tax (the historic vehicle thing now rolls on each year - for vehicles 40 years old ) I should warn you that getting a Land Rover is similar to getting a dose of Herpes - once you have got the bug you can't get rid of it !!!

Thanks for the warning.  A friend had Hermes ( she's a carrier I believe!)

The only thing putting me off is the number of projects currently on the go, and the fact the damn thing only did 20mpg ( mind you it didn't matter what I towed or where, it did 20mpg!) :smart:

Also the small matter of half the garage being occupied until further notice by it.

Currently it's on the "nice to do list",

We shall see.
