Joules, I like the idea of using your rum bottle but, with the large block of (whatever) metal used as the valve body wouldn't it be top heavy? I have been thinking about using a piece of plastic plumbing pipe but it would need to be weighted at the bottom.

I reckon that Rob's pipe flare wins the prize

Stylish and yet practical as the wide base will make it stable

Easy to add a weighted base.  I also like the rum bottle for having a domed base, less oil gets left in the bottle.  Don't use the whole bottle but maintain the diameter to height ratio on the plan.

Thanks for the drawings and inspiration . Had a bit of spare time today so after looking in the scrap bit found a bit of 2 inch copper pipe that has been laying around for years some scrap brass and other bits and pieces and made this

I realize this is an old thread but I finally got to making said oilcan. Well at least my interpretation of same from Pottyengineering's drawings adapted to the stuff I had in hand.

Being given some 45 x 120mm brass tube that looked like it needed to be used I had at it. Solder rather than Loctite the base to the body then wait for 'o' rings to arrive from China since I didn't have any. (How they can sell 10 rings for $2.50 post free is a mystery to me. But hey! I like the price so got a variety.)

The yellow knob on the top is from the, 'chuck it here' box and will most likely never get changed to the brass knob I told myself I would make.
Anyway, here's a pic of my effort.  Sorry for the lousy focus of my phone camera but that's all I have.

Thanks Stew,
I am happy with what I finished up with from virtual scrap.

Thanks, KRV.
The chaps at my local model engineering club this morning liked it also. Wanted to know how far it could squirt oil??
Dunno, but when I had water in it I managed to get close to 10ft.
One member wanted the plans and I have duly sent him a copy.

Currently doing battle with my CNC conversion of my 7 x 12 mini lathe. All works, just not getting the accuracy. Think it's all in job setup and backlash. Plus a fair bit of how I hold my tongue  it seems.
