Quill stop knob - Bridgeport type mill
« on: February 16, 2017, 11:27:11 AM »
This little job is to facilitate the fitting of a DRO to the quill on my Warco WM40 turret mill, (bit like a Bridgeport)
Newall make a fitting kit circa £200 which 'plugs into' the front facing centre hole. This hole is just over 6mm deep.  , so I felt the fitting would not be very secure.
The idea was to replace the standard knob with a version that had a flat front (for screwing into) and would bring the face forward a bit.
A little bit of dismantling to get the old part out.
1. Existing setup
2. The old and the new
3. New one in place, but omitting all the other bits...so far.
Pete

Nice work Pete

I can thoroughly recommend fitting a quick release nut to replace the original depth stop nut - saves ages winding it up and down.

Thanks Andrew. Now you are just encouraging me..   :bugeye:  I've never seen one of those. Is it a home made jobbie, or a financial expenditure?

I bought mine yonks ago but they are widely available. Barely worth making one, I don't think at they are too spendy. I seem to remember that mine came from J&L who were taken over by MSC as I recall.

Here you go, but other places sell them as well - try ebay
