A little help with a Teclock measuring device?
« on: February 25, 2017, 09:33:56 AM »
In my ongoing quest for a workshop which i may use and enjoy I keep a keen eye out for any and all things I may need (or "need"...) on the Norwegian equivalent of Craigslist. I have bought some absolutely astounding things for relatively cheap over the years, and I do feel my latest score was just that. A big score!

Here it is:

Brand new looking set of Mitutoyo 0-150mm. Micrometers. the standards are mostly not used and i actually had to open the bag with the keys needed to calibrate:

All of it for the equivalent of 120-150 £ or thereabouts.

In the same lot I did, however, also get this:

And I really have no idea what it is. Here's the other imortant view:

And the label from inside the case it came in:

There is a very stiff spring which makes it hard to manipulate in a manner which gives a reading on the Mitutoyo dial indicator.
It seems to have been purposely built for some specialised task and the two chromed things on either side of the u-shape leads me to think something like maybe tread or wire and there's a wheel missing in the midle or some such. Anyone have any idea? Any help very much appreciated!

Gentlemen,

Sorry about that. I am beginning to think I need to move away from Photobucket, it's not what it used to be.
I have sorted out the pictures in the first post.

So, anyone have any idea what the Teclock might be for? I had a discussion with my nephew yesterday and we concluded that the thread or wire- idea was probably wrong. Teclock today makes a lot of special measuring implements like thickness measures and the like.

Hi Henning,

It's a bicycle spoke tension meter!

See: http://www.hozan.co.jp/cycle_e/catalog/C737.html

There should be a calibration chart to go with it. Unfortunately it seems there isn't a downloadable chart as they're calibrated individually.

Cheers.

Phil.

 :jaw:  :mmr:

Thank you very much Phil! It all suddenly became clear. I'll have a look inside the box for any charts. The micrometer box came with all paperwork, so if it's been used by the same people, there may be something hidden.

Thank you very much again, my head doesn't stop spinning until I get answers to questions like this

Thanks all for the comments :mmr:  I am of course very happy to have found the micrometers and reckon I'll be on the plus side when I offload the old ones one by one

No charts inside the box unfortunately, and looking around the 'net it doesn't seem to be worth much without... So I'll give it one go on the net and if i don't get any takers I'll take it apart and see if I can utilize the dial indicator and maybe use the rest for something as well.

Thanks all again
Henning

Henning,

If you wanted to use the spoke tension gauge for wheelbuilding you could have a go at calibrating it yourself. You would need a way of tensioning a spoke with e.g a large spring balance or weight. (Or borrowing another calibrated gauge.) A typical tension is 80 to 100 kgf.

Mine is a more basic type which came with a calibration chart:

Thanks guys!
All things considered I don't think I'll engage in bike building as well though, so I'll try to sell it and if that doesn't work I'll see if I can manage to salvage the dial indicator. Spend the money on some upgrades for my 3D- printer instead
