How to solder HSS or carbide bit to steel shank?

(1/1)

PekkaNF:
OK, I'm getting 40% silver solder (AGA SILCO 40Ag).

But which flux I should use? Choices are Silco 600 (general) or Silco 600 RS

Silco 600 RS Pasta- universal flux for brazing

Suitable for:
- stainless steel A2
- stainless steel A4
- nickel and nickel alloys
- tungsten Carbide

Fine....BUT not steel....bog standard is:
Silco 600 Pasta- universal flux for brazing

Suitable for:
- copper
- brass
- bronze
- carbon Steel
- cast iron

Really should buy both, but which one I can use to to braze HSS or carbide to steel?

Thank you,
Pekka

Nicolas Hulme:
I just braze, not silver solder.
