Hey Y'all.
« on: May 17, 2009, 08:09:20 AM »
I guess I'll start right here. I was sent the link to this site by Craynerd. Thanks a bunch. Great looking spot with very cool stuff. A talented and diversified group for certain.
I'm Lee Styron.
I live about 25 minutes from The Gulf of Mexico in South Alabama. Yes, it's hot here most of the time. Love it though.

I have a couple small shops and still working on my latest. It is the largest at only 20' by 22'. It will eventually house all my cnc machines and welding stuff. It has steel walls outside and will also have that inside up to 3' high in case any sparks get loose. It is steel frame on the sides and treated timber in the back so far. Front is still open.
When this is completed, I can then turn my 16' by 16' shop back into a woodworking shop. :)

In 2003, I designed and started building table saw blade guards. There was a severe lack of good ones available for most saws. Getting better now, but I am now and have always been swamped with orders. Initially this was just part time, but a couple years back, I quit working for The Man! ;)
Dream come true really. I get to work in my shop for myself. How cool is that?  :headbang:

I have designed and built 3 cnc machines and converted one mini lathe to date. I did start on a plasma cutter as well, but found out I didn't really need it after my mill was built.
I built a small cnc router.
Then a mill and then the lathe conversion and finally the new lathe.
These build logs can be found at the cnc zone.
I do also have some videos up on You Tube.

I haven't had much chance to play on the cnc's yet. Mostly just production work. I will get time eventually though. Then perhaps I'll be able to post something cool on here as well. :)
I can provide links if there may be some interest.
Thanks and I look forward to contributing if I can.
Lee

Hi Lee,

Welcome to the collective :borg:

I know your work from reading over at the zone. Which is really fun as I had just been re-reading your thread on the 80/20 Lathe just minutes before you registered. You can provide links or pictures for our members who haven't registered over there yet.

Multiple shops? How cool is that.

Eric

Thanks, Guys.

I will put up a few links. Most can be found on my website, but not without hunting some.

This is my very first cnc that changed a little after initial build. I upgraded a few items. Still going strong after 4 years.

Next was my mill. It was also upgraded several times. Not done with it yet, but already looking toward another mill, but bigger and all home built.

I did a mini lathe conversion and that can be seen on the zone too. It's also on Youtube. Search for Leewayman. I have several vids there.

This is the build log for my lathe. It too underwent growing pangs, but now works great.

Thanks, Guys.
