Cutting a 50 degree angle on a 45 degree saw
« on: October 08, 2017, 02:51:39 PM »
Bit of a misnomer, but the angle required is really 40 degrees, but then the title would not make sense...
The discrepancy arises because the saw angle is measured from 90 degrees, whereas most of us refer to an included angle (I think).
My handy little bandsaw is one such machine with a 0-45 marking but that is from 90.
Just made a couple of wedges at 10 degrees to give the angle a head start.

1. Shows the wedges
2. Fitted to vice
3. Wedges in use
4. The longer parts have both a 40 degree and 50 degree

It would be possible to cut an included angle of 35 degrees with these particular wedges.

Excellent Idea, Thanks for posting.
I can see various odd angle wedges being useful when multiple pieces are needed.
Now if only I can remember this when I actually need it.
